MYTH #2: Count all calories

Finding out how many calories you need to intake can be a hard task. No two people are the same so it can be disheartening to count every single calorie you eat and many people just simply give up. A general rule is to start eating foods that are either grown or have been killed. For example: fruit and vegetables, nuts, pulses, fish, eggs and lean grass-fed meats.

MYTH #3: Low-fat foods and diet foods can help you lose weight

It is best to stick to foods that are not labelled low fat or claim to aid weight loss. Extra ingredients are usually added to make them taste the same.

Calories are all made up the same and are a measure of energy. It is where the calories are coming from that can change your weight. Different types of foods can affect our bodies in different ways. Calories from refined foods should be avoided and instead stick to whole foods which keep you feeling fuller for longer.

Fats come in many different forms, you just need to stick to the good healthy fats. Fish, avocados, olive oil, pulses, seeds and nuts all contain healthy fats, which will keep you feeling fuller for longer.

MYTH #7: Eggs are bad for you

Eggs contain unsaturated fats and are high in protein. This helps your body feel fuller for longer, burns more fats and helps build muscle.

Eating healthily AND cardio exercise are both keys to losing weight and maintaining that weight.

MYTH #10: Exercising on an empty stomach burns more calories

Your body needs energy to run and if you have no energy to complete a workout you will not do your best and are more likely to end your workout before your body burns any fat. Eat something light (fruit, yogurt, seeds) around an hour before exercising and do not forget to have a drink of water as well.

MYTH #11: Aim to burn 500 calories during cardio

Ditch the calorie counter when working out, and concentrate on increasing your metabolism. Short high-intensity bursts, which keep your heart rate up, will help you burn more calories.
